Bever explores the benefits the outdoors can bring to an ordinary life
Bever's latest outdoor wear advert, Outside You’ll Realise What You Need, highlights the brand’s commitment to the virtues of outdoor adventure and exploration.
The outdoor and travel store, based in the Netherlands, has a legacy of championing rugged outdoor living, inspired by its founder’s experiences in Alaska. Bever’s USP is that its employees are real Outdoor Experts, with experienced mountaineers and trail runners working in-store.
Sound production
The campaign focuses on connecting customers to nature, contrasting the everyday stresses of city life with the life-affirming benefits of outdoor exploration. This juxtaposition is heightened by jarring sound effects that accompany scenes of the daily churn, giving way to tranquil, uplifting music, as wholesome outdoor scenes conclude the advert.
The camera work in the piece focuses largely on the facial expressions of the actors, whose shifting personas evoke the freedom that outdoor lifestyles promote. Meanwhile, the scenes set in the city are given a colder, more dystopian blue/green tint, contrasting with the warmer colours used in the natural settings.
Avoiding distractions
The overall message of Bever’s ad is that the activities we engage in in our day-to-day life often distract us, rather than unite us. This messaging follows a spate of adverts which extol a slower pace of life: like this KLM offering, or this Heineken advert which compels us to get rid of our smartphones and reconnect the old-fashioned way.
