Sussex train station transformed to support Europe-bound Seagulls
Falmer train station, managed by Southern Rail, has been transformed to celebrate the triumph of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club making it to Europe for next year’s football season; for the first time ever.
Football fans and rail passengers alike saw Falmer station signage rebranded to Falmer: next stop, Europe! Falmer is the closest train station to the Amex Stadium, which has been home to Brighton & Hove Albion since 2011.
The temporary signage boasted a seagull emblem and the club's blue and white colours.
Showcased in time for the club's final home match against Manchester City, the new sign remained in situ until the club's final away game against Aston Villa on Sunday 28th May.
Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club’s position in the Premier League now means the south-coast side has made it into Europe, for the first time in the club’s history.
Stephen MacCallaugh, head of stations for Southern Rail, said: “Train travel and sport go hand in hand, with fans travelling up and down the country to follow their favourite teams. It’s been fantastic to watch the rise of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club over recent years and particularly this season. With the football club such a pillar of the local community, we wanted to celebrate the club making it into Europe by transforming Falmer Station’s signs. Congratulations Seagulls!”
Paul Barber, deputy chairman and chief executive for Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have secured a European spot for the club, our fans and the city. We can't wait for the draw to find out where we will be playing, and we are really looking forward to welcoming fans from across Europe next season."
